Catawba County Schools| Library| Play Grounds: Hickory Community Theatre Director Charles Jeffers recently announced the cast for the upcoming drama "Frost/Nixon."
The cast includes John Gann, C. John Watts III, Bob Smith, Blake Comby, Meredith Potter, Ralph Mangum, George Page, Joshua Propst and Kent Kerley.
"Frost/Nixon" recounts television host David Frost's interview with Richard Nixon, which resulted in the ex-President admitting his role in the cover-up of the Watergate burglary
The production will run Jan 14-30 in the Jeffers Theatre at 30 Third St. N.W., Hickory. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and $7 for youth and students. Tickets are available at www.hct.org or by calling the box office at 828-328-2283.
Performances of the holiday musical comedy "She Loves Me" are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today and next Sunday, 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Hickory Community Theatre, 30 Third St. N.W., Hickory.
Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $7 for students and youth ages 18 and younger. Thursday night tickets are $10. Tickets are available atwww.hct.org by calling 828-328-2283 or noon-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday at the theater box office.
The next Poetry Hickory event will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse, 29 Second St. N.W. in downtown Hickory. The featured readers will be poets Al Maginnes and Larry Johnson.
The featured readings will follow a meeting of the North Carolina Writers' Network at 5 p.m. and an open mike at 6:30 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
Maginnes and Johnson teach at Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh. Maginnes is the author of six collections of poetry. His latest book, "Ghost Alphabet," received the White Pine Poetry Prize. Johnson's newest collection of poetry is "Veins."

The Hickory YMCA will offer a seven-night cruise package May 14-22 to the western Caribbean on the Royal Caribbean ship, "Freedom of the Seas." The package includes a pre-cruise night in Savannah, Ga., on the way to Port Canaveral, Fla.

A program on North Carolina's state dog, the plott hound, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library, 375 Third St. N.E., Hickory.
The program is free and open to the public. Children's author Libby Bagby will bring her pet plott hound, Lucky, and discuss the history and characteristics of the breed and how it came to be a North Carolina state symbol.
