The standard time being used in the is UTC and EST or the standard time in the United States will be +5 UTC. In countries like the Philippines and Southeast Asia this will be +18 UTC since the time there is +12 EST. The start of the eclipse will begin December 21 after midnight EST on December 21 in North and South America while it will be visible in Northern Europe just before sunrise.
The end of the total lunar eclipse 2010 will also be visible at Sunset for Japan and northeastern Asia. In the Philippines it will be visible after sunset as a partial lunar eclipse.
This is also the second of two lunar eclipses in 2010. The first eclipse happened on June 26, 2010 which is a partial lunar eclipse. What is exciting about today’s total lunar eclipse is the fact that it will be the first total lunar eclipse to occur on the day of the Northern Winter Solstice since 1638, and only the second in the Common Era.
We have asked some of the local residents in the area about their thoughts on the total lunar eclipse 2010.
“We hope that there will be a clear sky tonight since my kids are really very excited about it. We have asked our neighbor who has a telescope to come visit us and join us in the rooftop,” said Jenny Tan.
“I never missed any solar and lunar eclipse in my entire life when it will be seen here, and this one I will surely watch,” said Mark Lennard.
“My grandchildren enjoys astronomical events. The last time we were able to watch a meteor shower from our balcony,” said Michelle Conrad.
I am also eager to watch the total lunar eclipse 2010 and hoping for a very clear sky.
