Lake Michigan Credit Union Paying 4.0 % [Max Checking]

Lake Michigan Credit Union Paying 4.0 % [Max Checking]: It’s been a while since we reported on any spectacular high yield checking accounts mainly due to their tanking rates, however, we found one credit union still boasting a 4% APY checking deal (if you can meet the requirements).

Before you proceed with one of these accounts remember that interest checking accounts or “Rewards Checking Accounts” are not for every one. They come with fairly rigid monthly requirements which must me met or exceeded to earn the exceptional interest rate. Typically, you will be required to make a certain amount of debit transactions from the account (usually between 10 and 15) as well as set up at least one recurring transfer during the 30 day period and use their online banking system. The requirements vary with each banking institution, so make sure they can be met with ease on your part before opening one.

Lake Michigan Credit Union is offering a rewards checking account which they refer to as a “Max Checking Account.” It comes with an industry best 4.0% APY on balances up to $15,000.

Account Features:

-  No fees, and no minimum balance requirements.

-  It pays 4% APY* on balances up to $15,000

-  Refunds up to $15 per month in surcharge ATM withdrawal fees at non-LMCU ATMs when you withdraw from your Max Checking account.

Requirements to earn 4% APY:

- Direct deposit into any LMCU account

- Minimum of 10 debit card purchases per month

- Minimum of 4 logins to home banking per month

- Be eligible for and sign up to receive eStatements/eNotices

Visit their Max Checking page for further details.

Helzberg Diamonds Engagement Ring| Reviews

Helzberg Diamonds Engagement Ring| Reviews: Helzberg Diamonds’ ads recently started running on Glenn Beck’s program on Fox News.

As with other advertisers, the StopBeck effort reached out to Helzberg Diamonds.  We kindly requested that they follow the responsible action of hundreds of other former advertisers and refrain from advertising on Glenn Beck’s show.

In a statement sent to the StopBeck effort, Helzberg Diamonds advised that they were removing their ads from Glenn Beck’s show:

Thanks for raising the concern. We’ve reviewed the marketing schedule and made the decision to remove our commercials from that time slot. With commitments already made and to provide professional notice, this will go into effect next week. We appreciate your feedback and responsiveness.

Great work all!

Your tweets and emails do matter. Many thanks for your continued participation in this accountability effort.

Onward we go…

Two asides:

With the addition of Helzberg Diamonds, there are now 302 companies that refuse to advertise on Glenn Beck’s show.
November 9 marked nearly 9 months of no advertisers for the UK broadcast of Glenn Beck’s program.

Despite concerns expressed by their own sponsors, Fox News refuses to get the message.  Fox News has yet to deliver accountability for Glenn Beck’s reckless vitriol and willful deceit.  That is why I strongly suggest taking a look at and adding your name to Media Matters’ DropFox petition.  I’m usually not a big fan of petitions, but I do believe the time is coming for even broader action.  I mean, Murdoch practically said as much here.
