Match of Beef O Bradys,threre's Shirts: The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles will take on the Louisville Cardinals in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl Tuesday Night. Despite the difference in records, this should be a great match-up. Both of these teams played well this season at times, and have the capability of lighting up the scoreboard offensively.

An 8-4 record in the improved Conference USA isn’t anything to hang your head about. The Golden Eagles had to play UCF and Houston down the stretch, and won both games by double-digits. Obviously the Cougars weren’t as good as college football experts expected them to be when they were given a top-25 ranking earlier in the year, but they are still a reputable squad that can give just about any team problems with their high caliber passing attack. This S. Miss team ranked in the top 25 in both rushing yards (203 per game) and points scored (37.6). They have an above average quarterback, but lack a defense that is capable of shutting down their opposition.

Austin Davis has thrown for almost 3000 yards this season with 18 touchdowns to only 6 interceptions. These are good numbers for a team that relies on throwing the ball, but this Eagles squad has a run first mentality. Kendrick Hardy is their top ball carrier with 855 yards, but Desmond Johnson, Austin Davis, Tracy Lampley and V.J. Floyd have contributed an additional 1522 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. If they can get their running game going early against the Cardinals “D”, this could turn out to be a blowout.

Louisville may have a 6-6 record, but their losses came against very good teams. Kentucky and Oregon St are solid big conference schools that the Cardinals took on this year. In conference, Pittsburgh, S. Florida and W. Virginia are all tough teams that have made it to a bowl game this season. This team is far better than their record indicates, and will be fired up and ready to cap off this season with a win Tuesday.

The Cards are led by star running back Bilal Powell. Powell has rushed for over 1300 yards this year, racking up 10 touchdowns in the process. His 6.3 yards per carry shows that he has the speed and power necessary to run around and through defenses. Adam Froman isn’t  the typical Louisville quarterback. The Cardinals have produced several NFL QB’s over the years, but Froman is not in that class. He has an above average passer rating, but doesn’t throw the ball nearly enough to be considered a huge threat. He will need to make a play of 2 against Southern Miss, especially since the Golden Eagles defense was ranked 81st in division 1 in terms of points allowed with almost 30 per game.

Surprisingly, the 6-6 Cardinals have been listed as a 2.5 point favorite by NCAA football handicappers for this match-up. The Vegas books must have factored in the strength of both teams schedules when setting this line, but this should end up being a highly competitive showdown. Tune in Tuesday as Louisville and S. Mississippi try to end their season on a winning note at the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl in St. Petersburg Florida.
