Wxrisk Weather Forecast Channel: Good afternoon gang. I wanted to drop by for a quickie update on the streak of snow heading our way tonight and for our Winter Storm Threat for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Light snow is working in from the northwest and will enter parts of northern and central Kentucky late this afternoon into the evening. This will produce some light accumulations during this time. That batch of snow will slowly work northeastward as the individual returns work southeast. This will eventually mix with a touch of freezing rain later tonight and Tuesday morning. Looking ahead toward our storm for Christmas. The trend for a colder and farther south tracking storm continues and this would mean an all snow event for the state. Here is how the new GFS Ensembles look...



The GFS itself is trending to the south, but looks to have some precip issues in terms of output. That said... here are the snowfall numbers from the GFS through Christmas Night...



An inch or two of "a lot more"? That is the big question we will tackle in the coming days as a White Christmas is almost a given.

One thing to watch for is the track of the low trying to go too far to our south. There is some potential this could be an issue giving us a light snowfall while Tennessee gets the heavy snow. That's not the case right now, however. To me... that is really the only thing that can prevent us from getting a significant snowfall at this point.

Wbal weather| Wbal Tv| WJZ Weather: BALTIMORE -- The 11 News viewing area is getting its latest visit from 'ol Man Winter.
Maryland State Police said a snow emergency plan went into place for Baltimore County at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Motorists are required to operate vehicles that are equipped with snow tires as designated by the manufacturer or equipped with chains. Vehicles can't be parked on any highway designated as a snow emergency route. | Click here for the list of emergency routes.
A number of other Maryland counties have implemented similar emergency plans.
Shortly before noon, on the WBALTV.com "live wire" blog, one viewer reported, "Light snow in Dundalk. Beginning to stick on parking lot, cars and sidewalks." Another reported that it was "snowing pretty good" in Prince George's County.
Snow began falling on 11 TV Hill at about 11 a.m. Shaw said the snow would "persist throughout the afternoon and into the early evening."

"Tonight's forecast still keeps some snow around, but it's generally going to be tapering off," Shaw said of the snow. "The bitter cold does continue." Low temperatures tonight will be in the low 20s.

Wtop Weather| Wbal weather: WASHINGTON - It's still more than a week until winter officially begins, but the D.C. region saw its first snow of the season Friday.
A clipper system that moved into the area triggered snow flurries and snow showers Friday morning and afternoon.
The snow coated lawns and roads, but didn't amount to any actual accumulation.
It did however, catch people off guard.
Montgomery and Frederick counties in Maryland and Loudoun County in Virginia saw the most snow, ABC 7 meteorologist Chris Naille says.
Some areas didn't see any flakes.
The surprise snow led to multiple traffic accidents on major roadways like I-270, Rockville Pike, I-70 and I-83.
WTOP Traffic's Bob Marbourg reported the roads were "incredibly slippery" and may have a glaze of ice over them.
Maryland State Police enacted a snow emergency plan in Frederick and Washington counties, and salt trucks were treating roads.
Frederick County also canceled all afternoon and evening activities as a result of the weather. Click here for more closings and delays.
The winter weather won't last through the weekend.
Saturday will be the nicest day of the weekend, with sunshine and temperatures in the mid to upper 40s.
Rain is predicted for Sunday. Areas to the west could see a mix of snow and rain into Sunday night.
